On Sunday 15 June, over 50 people gathered for the reunion of the St Augustine’s College Choir directed by the late Fr Pat Fahey OSA from 1959-1972. Former choir members paid tribute to Fr Pat, their highly regarded choirmaster.

When Fr Pat came to St Augustine’s College in 1959 he brought with him significant knowledge and training, having completed a BA in Liberal Arts (Villanova University), theological studies and a Master of Music in Liturgical Music (Catholic University of America, Washington DC). The choir flourished under his direction and were dedicated, undertaking practice daily and participating in choir camps. The choir performed in a multitude of eisteddfods, concerts and tours. They were highly successful, winning the NSW Boys’ Choral Championship in 1966 and 1967 and were subsequently offered a recording contract from Festival Records from which three LPs were produced.

It was wonderful to hear 23 of the former choir members perform five songs for Fr Fahey, Errol Lea Scarlett (former choir organist and teacher) and the many family and friends present. David Burke (Class of 1972), Michael Williams (Class of 1970), Alan Wild (Class of 1963), Gary Bourke (Class of 1972) and Paul English (Class of 1973) shared moving recollections of their choir days.
