The St Augustine’s Music Department provides an extensive Music Curriculum Programme.  All boys from Years 5-8 study the Mandatory Music Course.  This course provides students with the opportunity to discover and explore a variety of musical genres through activities in performance, musicology and composition.  A two year Elective Music Course is offered in Years 9 and 10.

Students can further develop their study of Music in Years 11 and 12 in Music 1, Music 2 and/or Extension Music.  These courses offer students the opportunity to specialise in performance, composition or musicology.

Co-curricular Music at St Augustine’s College provides an extensive and growing Music Programme with three Concert Bands, two Stage Bands, Primary & Senior School Choirs, and Jazz Ensemble.  We also provide smaller ensembles for several instrument groups.

The College provides a wide range of performance opportunities through concerts for each Year Group, musical support for Official College functions, liturgies, parent functions and the bi-annual Musical, such as the past productions of 'Guys and Dolls', ‘Oliver’ and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’.

The peak of the musical Calendar is the Music Festival.  A week long celebration of the musicians of the College.  The Festival includes a composition competition, solo instrumental recitals, the battle of the bands comp, and the concert on Friday night showcasing the highlights from the week.

All ensembles at the College participate in the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod.  Performances for the community include annual Corso performances, involvement in the Warringah School Spectacular, ‘Jazz on the Ferry’ as well as other opportunities.

Individual Private Tuition is available for students who wish to study an instrument privately through the private tuition programme.  Highly qualified specialist tutors provide tuition in woodwind, brass, percussion, piano, guitar, voice and bass.  All students who undertake private tuition are encouraged to join one of the ensembles.  Duration of the weekly lessons is 30 minutes.

A limited number of instruments are available for hire from the College.

Students are encouraged to enter examinations officiated by the AMEB or Trinity College. Reporting of student progress in included in the full school reports issued at the end of each semester.
