WORLD'S GREATEST SHAVE
WORLD’S GREATEST SHAVE RESULTS IN WONDERFUL COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR LIAM DONOHOE AND THE LEUKAEMIA FOUNDATION
Last Friday the College came together to support fellow Year 8 student Liam Donohoe in his fight against cancer. Liam became was diagnosed in the last few days of school in Term 4, 2016. Since then five of his school friends George and Tom Barrett, Jake Gillis, Joseph Chilcott and Felix Talbot initiated fundraising for the Leukaemia Foundation. Last weekend the five friends had their heads shaved in front of friends and family at the Calabrian Club in Manly Vale. The boys had hoped to raise $250 each. Over time, they soon realised support was growing at a fast rate. Between them and with extended support, they have raised over $41,500.
Last Friday at the College, staff and students joined in on the head shave event with over 122 students and 5 staff; Gina Marshall, Mitch Cooper, Owen Vale, Brian Sinclair and David Gale partaking in the World’s Greatest Shave. Held in the Brimson Centre during lunchtime, a team of local hairdressers and mothers of the five students, shaved heads in front of College students and staff. The room was full of wonderful energy, with everyone in support Liam, whilst raising funds and awareness for the Leukaemia Foundation. The lunchtime activity and contributions made to individual student WGS fundraising pages in the weeks leading up to the event added another $20,000 for the Foundation, bringing the combined total to approximately $61,500. We are told this positions them as one of the country’s highest fundraising teams.
Media coverage included Channel 9 reporting the event that day and evening, along with a story in today’s Manly Daily.
Liam’s mother, Nicole Donohoe, said, “We are so overwhelmed by the care and support of the College. They are in contact with us every few days. Liam has such a positive attitude about his situation and is super happy and proud of his friends and all of the College getting behind raising funds and awareness for Leukaemia”.
