Students at Stella Maris College and St Augustine’s College support White Ribbon
Over the next 12 months, the student leadership teams from Stella Maris and St Augustine’s will join forces to implement several initiatives across both campuses. The first being their collective stand on mutual respect and putting a stop to violence against women. Stella Maris College Captain Sophia Van Rooyen and Vice Captains Erin Fisher and Jade Fleming attended our Tuesday morning assembly to impress on the boys their capacity to make change and that their actions can make a difference. Goold House Captain Daniel Cooper also spoke about the issue and asked St Augustine’s students and staff to make the White Ribbon Pledge together, stating: “I will stand up, speak out and act to prevent men’s violence against women.”

Next generation, helping put a stop to violence: Erin Fisher, Joe Dunne, Sophia Van Rooyen, Ben Copping, Jade Fleming and Dan Cooper
In the afternoon, our student leaders, College Captain Ben Copping, Vice-Captain Joseph Dunne and Daniel Cooper attended the Stella Maris assembly to address the students. Our boys echoed the White Ribbon message that no person should ever be subjected to any sort of violence. They spoke of their strong belief in educating boys about the issue of domestic violence and being positive male role models to the younger community. The boys vowed to challenge and change disrespectful cultures and attitudes, hoping to become the generation that helps put a stop to violence against women.
