Enthusiastic and talented writers in Years 7-9 are encouraged to attend the annual overnight Junior Writers’ Retreat at Land’s Edge, Chowder Bay. The retreat commences on Sunday, November 25th and concludes at 2:00pm Monday November 26th. The theme of the retreat is “A story that shaped our life” and the program consists of presentations and workshops from several guest writers, including:
Kate Forsyth: an Australian author best known for the reimagining of the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales including The Beast’s Garden, which appropriates 'Beauty & the Beast' to Nazi Germany, and Beauty in Thorns, a version of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ set amongst the passions and scandals of the Pre-Raphaelites. In addition, she has written the fantasy adventure series for children titled, The Impossible Quest.
Jack Heath: is a best-selling and award-winning author of more than twenty action-packed books for kids and one crime novel for adults. The Truth App, the first book in his new five-book crime fiction Liars series was released in September.
The total cost of $150 per student covers guest presentations, writing sessions, writing materials, meals and overnight accommodation. There are limited spaces available and expressions of interest are due to Asheeka Nand or Thomas Hinton by Friday, October 26th.
