Football Season Continues
Well done to all teams who played throughout the holidays – sometimes short of players – as the race to the finals of the MWFA Competition begins to take shape. The MWFA Junior Finals will take place on Sunday 19 August and all teams can expect games in the next two weeks, so should check their draws carefully.
Goal Keeper Training Continues
Each Wednesday afternoon on the College Oval, Old Boy Ryan McLean offers goalkeeper training to all the College’s teams. Commencing at 3:40pm, the hour long sessions are great for new or experienced ‘keepers’. With penalty shootouts now becoming part of the MWFA finals series in the case of tied matches, it is more important than ever that our GK’s are prepared. Come along and take away some great ‘keeping’ tips!
Players Attire – Uniform
It has become apparent that some players are wearing incorrect uniform (i.e. black sport shorts and not the correct green football shorts or socks that don’t fit correctly or have been washed that many times, they are the wrong colour). Taking the field in the correct football uniform shows pride in the school and lifts the team spirit.
Similarly, many players are arriving at their grounds in alternative jackets and hoodies and not the St Augustine's College sports jacket. Players should not be doing this and parents should not let it happen. Please ensure your match day preparations entail having the correct uniform ready to go.
FOOTBALL PRESENTATION NIGHT – early reminder
Players and parents are reminded to set aside Thursday 30th August for the 2018 St Augustine's College Football Presentation Night, held here at the College from 7:00pm. All players from U11- U16 are expected to attend in full winter uniform. The College U18 teams will be presented at a later date. Awards for all teams will be presented as well as the participation shields that boys attach to their Sport and Co-curricular plaques.
Also on the night, we will be collecting pre-loved football boots, shin pads and playing gear that will be sent over to Ghana, Africa in the coming months, where it will be used by local communities who are not as well off, but still love their football. Players that drop off gear on the night will receive a free ticket in the draw to win a Rebel voucher.
SAINTS PLAYERS HIT CROMER PARK
Last Saturday, members of the U11 Div 2 team were invited by the MWFA to act as mascots for the Manly United Football Club and also play during the half time interval. The boys enjoyed themselves and the match v Wollongong FC was most entertaining. Also at Half time, Year 8 student Oscar Hugill won the ‘Crossbar Challenge” whereby players must kick a ball into the crossbar from a designated place on the field. Nice shootin’, Oscar!
