Recently a team of six International students placed third in the NSW Schools’ Chinese Debating Championship. The team consisted of the following students: Daniel Yu, Riley Zhang, John Zhang, Ben Rong, Steve Piao and Kelvin Mai.
The students should be congratulated on their determination and motivation to vigorously debate on a range of topics. Topics included: globalisation, societal values and education. The debating tournament was held at different venues across Sydney and included some of NSW most elite schools. The St Augustine’s team made it to the final four schools in NSW and were awarded the bronze medal.
Throughout the tournament the students exhibited marvelous debating skills, impressive teamwork and most importantly they improved their ability to public speak, and to think critically and logically. In addition, the students also developed their Chinese language skills through intensive practice of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
