Macbeth Incursion- Thursday 16 August
Year 9 English were entertained by three players from Bell Shakespeare performing “Macbeth: The Rehearsal.” The Year 9 students were intrigued observers and participated as the Three Witches in the interactive show that featured the famous Witches’ Prophecies, Banquo’s Ghost and Lady Macbeth sleep walking scenes. However, the most thrilling scene was King Duncan’s murder executed beautifully by Andrew Strunk who spun himself into the front row of the audience. In addition, Macbeth’s soliloquies played by a comedic, disengaged person who developed his love for Shakespeare and theatre throughout the performance. At the end of the period, all the boys came away with greater understanding of Macbeth’s tragic journey and how to transform a modest setting into a theatrical setting with a few simple props.
- I enjoyed the format as a rehearsal of the play. This allowed the actors to give us an analysis of their lines which I found insightful and interesting. (Fraser Wilson, 9ENG1)
- It gave me a better visual understanding of the key scenes in the play. (Tom Gerrans, 9ENG1)
