Would any students like to become a Catholic?

We would like to invite families of students who desire to participate more fully in the Sacramental life of the Catholic Church.

During Term 1, your son will have experienced the rich sacramental life of St Augustine’s College. The whole College celebrated our Mass of the Holy Spirit, either at St Kieran’s Catholic Church, Manly Vale or in the Brimson Centre at the College. Students also participated in our Ash Wednesday liturgy and may have attended one of our Community Masses held in the College Chapel on Wednesday mornings.

Perhaps your son has not had the opportunity to be baptised or to complete a Sacramental program consisting of: Confirmation, Reconciliation and Eucharist (First Holy Communion).

Please discuss this opportunity with your son. If this is something that your son is interested in completing, would you please contact Simon Hyland, Leader of Liturgy and Retreats, or Fr Senan Ward OSA, College Chaplain, by the end of Term 1, 2018.

From the Leader of SEA - Service Education Awareness  

Lenten Appeal 2018

As a part of the College’s Lenten Appeal this week:

• Heavey 4 – Robyn Barden, Tutor, enjoyed her ‘paid forward’ coffee from Fuel café courtesy of Heavey 4.
• Goold 1 - Volunteered at the Manly Warringah Women’s Resource Centre. They undertook jobs such as gardening, washing windows, cleaning external play equipment, emptying storage cupboards and disinfecting shelving.
• Goold 4, 5 and Year 7 – Cleaning expedition at Collaroy Beach.
• Reville 1 and 2 – Cleaning expedition at North Curl Curl beach.
• 9HUT1 - Primary mentoring, reading and numeracy
• Year 6L - Participated in a day that tried to give them a small taste of what life would be like for the children who live in the TMMR Orphanage in the Philippines.   This meant the absence of technology, limited desk and chairs in the classroom, the use of only one ceiling fan, one piece of fruit for recess and rice for lunch and only one ball available for play for the whole class.
• Year 6A and 6C – Conducted ‘random acts of kindness’.

Harmony Day - 21 March 2018

Racism No Way!

Our diversity makes Australia a great place to live. Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.

Held every year on 21 March, the Day aims to engage people to participate in their community, respect cultural and religious diversity and foster a sense of belonging for everyone.

Some facts:

• Approximately 45% of Australians were born overseas or have at least one parent who was born overseas.
• More than 300 languages are spoken in Australian homes.
• People from over 200 countries make up the Australian community.

Matthew Talbot Hostel Visit – Monday, 26 March: Heavey 5 and 6

ALL YEAR 11 STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND AT LEAST ONCE as a part of the Senior School Service Program.

• This volunteering can be logged as a part of the Senior School Service Program and will be recorded as 2 hours. Please ensure the students record their hours online via ATLAS-Resources-SEA
• Staff and students will meet at Reception and depart the College at 3.50pm. Students will travel in a teacher’s car to and from the hostel.
• Whilst at Matthew Talbot Hostel staff and students will assist with table setting and clearing and meal distribution between 4.30pm and 5.15pm.
• Staff and students will depart Matthew Talbot at approx. 5.15pm and arrive back at the College no later than 6pm.

Love and then do what you will (Saint Augustine Sermon 7:8)

Last Friday marked the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. The College acted too, along with the 4000 other schools registered, by raising awareness through our pastoral period and reflecting in prayer. Year 5 and 6 students discussed the underlying power relationships involved in bullying situations, and the difference between bullying and what students refer to as ‘banter.’

This action amplifies the conversations we have been having in Tutor Groups and assemblies about the importance of connection and belonging. It has been inspired by our theme for the year, ‘Love and do what you will.’
