We are now in week 3 of Rowing and we have welcomed a brand new shiny crew of 18 very happy Yr 7’s (including 4 Coxwains!!!) into the program at the Introduction night. We look forward to seeing as many parents as possible at our Meet n’ Greet this Friday at 6.30pm. It’s a very casual affair and more details to be found on our Rowing Facebook Page.
Starting this Saturday there will be a community breakfast for all Saints rowers at Mosman Rowing Club, where the boys train from 6 am to 11.30 am. They generally start with a water session and then a break, followed by a gym session (the fastest one in the gym gets to be “Gym DJ”). It is during the break that the boys have a delicious nutritious breakfast prepared by either a parent or one of the Mosman Masters. The breakfast is a fantastic opportunity to re-group and re-charge and there is a different breakfast each week. The girls from Mosman, Old Boys from the program (Sean Murphy, Bjarne Ungemach etc) all join in and they all sit together resting and chatting before the next session. If you would like to help us with breakfast, we would love to talk to you!
This week the year nines enjoyed an ergometer test on the rowing machines – they work hard to beat their own set times and each boy was cheered on by everyone in the gym. One boy beat his PB by a whole minute! Well done – inspiring work.
Our community is continuing to grow and change. Barney Potts has stepped down as the Teacher In Charge of Rowing however will continue to be involved in rowing coaching and Ian Thompson has retired as Chairman. All their work must be applauded, and we thank them both.
The College through John Papahatzis Assistant Principal Sport & Co-curricular, has introduced a new Rowing structure.
- Judith Ungemach is now The Master In Charge of Rowing and will be responsible for the administration of the program at the College.
- Matt Ungemach is still the Director of Rowing
- Luke Murphy is Manager/Chairman – All general enquiries and questions should be directed to Luke Ph: 0412 402 090 E: lmurf@optusnet.com.au
Moving forward, the Rowing Program will be operating as 'whole club' not Juniors/Seniors. The community is continuing to grow and there is an exciting year ahead of us.
We look forward to meeting and seeing everyone again, old and new, on Friday.
