In the mid year school break, 13 boys from St Augustines raced for the College at the NSW Northern Region Interschools Snowsports Championships in Thredbo. The College was represented by boys from Year 5 to Year 11 in divisions 1, 2, 3, 4 in all disciplines of Skier-X, Alpine, Boarder-X and Boarder GS. This is the sixth year straight that we have entered a team and as one of the smallest teams competing, our boys achieved high results and again made State Championship level.
St Augustines came 3rd in the overall Secondary Schools Boys Point score for ALL events for NSW based schools in the Northern NSW region. This was an outstanding achievement with such a small group of 13 boys amongst over 2000 competitors at the event, with no formal race training, against the larger schools of Kings, Knox and Barker.
Several boys turned in an amazing performance with three boys qualifying for the State Titles for individual and team events. This was another great result for the sport at the College.
A big congratulation goes to the following three boys for their individual and team results qualifying for State Titles:
- Samuel Gartner - 5th individually in Alpine, Division 1
- Samuel Gartner, Jay Thoms and Riley Thoms – 2nd in the teams for Alpine, Division 1
This is the fifth year straight that Samuel Gartner and Jay Thoms have qualified for State Championship level, having raced at State level in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and now Year 11. Congratulations on the boys for their ongoing representative level achievements.
Special mention to Riley Thoms who raced up a Division to make State Titles.
Joining the boys at State titles will be Kyle Brown who will be the first from the College to compete in Snowboard Slopestyle.
State titles are on from 22nd -26th of August, and we wish our boys all the best in their endeavours and hope they race well and qualify to reach the National Titles. Thanks to the parents who managed their boys and volunteered as officials at the races.
