Professional learning is the formal and informal learning experiences undertaken by teachers and school leaders that improve their professional practice and the school’s collective effectiveness as measured by improved student engagement and learning outcomes (Cole, 2012, p 1).
Effective schools are ones in which professional learning and development is not ‘ad hoc’ but is related to the mission and strategic intent of the school. Through the pedagogical framework of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) over 60% of our academic staff meet regularly to foster a collaborative approach to learning and provide opportunities for teachers to work together and share teaching practices.
