Overview
Basketball is a well-established and popular sport at St Augustine’s College, offering students from Years 5 to 12 the opportunity to develop their skills, compete in structured inter-school competitions and represent the College with pride.
As part of the College’s Sport and Co-curricular Program, basketball provides pathways for students of all abilities - from boys learning the fundamentals of the game to those with experience in club or representative basketball. The program emphasises participation, skill development, teamwork and enjoyment, while encouraging students to challenge themselves both on and off the court.
Program Structure
Season: Terms 4 and 1 (the following year)
Points: 15
Training: Teams train one to two sessions per week, with sessions scheduled in the morning and/or afternoon depending on age group and level.
Competition:
- Secondary students compete in the Independent Sporting Association (ISA) competition
- Primary students compete in the Independent Primary Schools Heads Association (IPSHA) competition
- Games are played on Saturday mornings at venues across Sydney
Coaching & Development
The Basketball program at St Augustine’s College is supported by an experienced coaching group that includes:
- former and current representative players
- representative and school coaches
- St Augustine’s College staff and alumni
Training sessions focus on building strong basketball fundamentals while fostering confidence, discipline and teamwork. Coaches aim to create a positive and supportive environment where boys are encouraged to improve, compete fairly and enjoy the game.
Player Development Pathways
Basketball at St Augustine’s College provides students with regular competitive opportunities and exposure to structured school sport.
Through weekly fixtures and consistent training, students develop:

- teamwork and communication
- resilience and sportsmanship
Boys who participate in club or representative basketball are supported in balancing their commitments, while those new to the sport are given opportunities to build confidence and progress at their own pace.
Facilities & Equipment
Basketball training and matches are conducted using the College’s indoor and outdoor court facilities, as well as external venues for competition.
Students are required to have:
- appropriate basketball footwear
- College PE uniform
- water bottle

How to Get Involved
Basketball registrations open prior to the season, with information communicated to families via the College App and email. Students are encouraged to speak with the Sports Department if they would like further information about teams, training or selection processes.
