Overview

St Augustine’s College offers a comprehensive Swim Squad program as part of its Sport and Co-curricular Program, catering to students from Years 5 to 12 across a range of ability levels, from beginner (able to swim laps) to intermediate swimmers. The program is designed to help students develop and refine their skills in the water under experienced coaching, in a supportive and structured environment.

St Augustine’s College lists the Swim Squad among its core sporting offerings, demonstrating the importance the College places on individual sport development alongside team sports in its broader co-curricular framework.

Season & Structure

  • Season Breakdown:
    • Summer Squad: Terms 1 and 4

    • Winter Squad: Terms 2 and 3

  • Training: Tuesday and Thursday morning sessions

  • Points: Up to 10 points for participation (up to 15 points for students also selected in the ISA Swim Team)

  • Competition: Invitational meets and ISA Swimming (for selected athletes)

This structure ensures year-round engagement and skill development opportunities for swimmers of all levels.

Coaching & Development

The Swim Squad is supported by qualified and passionate coaches who focus on helping students improve stroke technique, endurance, race skills, and overall confidence in the water. Squad training is tailored to both foundational skill development and readiness for competition.

Entry to the ISA Swim Team is selective, with squad participants given opportunities to be chosen to represent the College in inter-school competitive swimming events, fostering both individual achievement and school representation.

Participation & Student Experience

  • Students from Years 5–12 can join the Swim Squad.
  • Swimmers can build water skills and fitness in a structured, team-oriented environment.

  • The squad complements the broader College sporting culture that values resilience, challenge, and personal growth through sport.

Swimming at the College also ties into house carnivals and larger carnivals that can contribute to representative opportunities, such as ISA Swimming Carnivals and other invitational meets coordinated through the Independent Sporting Association.

Competitive Pathways

The Swim Squad aligns with the College’s participation in the ISA Swimming program, which hosts competitive swimming events for member schools. These carnivals take place at major aquatic centres (e.g., Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre) and provide opportunities for swimmers to compete, qualify for larger representative events, and experience inter-school competition.

The Value of Swimming Participation

Swimming supports students’ development in multiple ways:

  • Physical fitness and endurance

  • Water confidence and safety

  • Technical stroke and speed improvement

  • Competitive experience and personal challenge

  • Team spirit within a squad environment

Participation in Swim Squad complements academic learning and builds lifelong skills in commitment, self-discipline, and resilience.

Program Positioning

The Swim Squad is a key individual sport offering alongside team sports like Rugby Union, AFL, Cricket, and Basketball in the College’s Sport and Co-curricular Program, reflecting St Augustine’s commitment to holistic student development through sport.
