The College Board (the Board) is a Company Limited by Guarantee. The Members of the Board represent and are accountable to the Trustees of the Order of St Augustine through the Prior Provincial and his Council.  The Board of Directors appointed by the Members, is responsible for the Governance of St Augustine’s College – Sydney (the College) 

Membership of the College Board may include:

  • Augustinian priests
  • Current and past Parents
  • Old Boys
  • Individuals with requisite expertise

The composition of the Board seeks to provide an appropriate range of experience, skills, knowledge and perspective to enable it to carry out its obligations and responsibilities.

Fr David Austin OSA Priest with the Order of St Augustine. Currently Parish Administrator of North Harbour Catholic Community and Bursar of the Province. Previous roles include Prior Provincial (2014-2018); Vice Rector of Villanova College; Rector of St Augustine’s College; Parish Priest of Kyabram and Echuca (Victoria), Coorparoo (Brisbane) and Holy Spirit Parish, St Clair; Member of Catholic Commission for Employment Relations (2011-2016); current member of Senate of Catholic Institute of Sydney. Joined the Board in 2019

Fr Peter Wieneke OSA  Priest with The Order of St Augustine. College Chaplain at Villanova College and Prior at Villanova Priory. Former roles include parish priest at St Kieran’s, North Harbour, Vice Rector at St Augustine’s College, Rector at Villanova College, and Parish priest at Holy Spirit Church, St Clair. Joined the College Council in 1996. 

Grainne McCormack  Executive Director in the NSW Department of Industry and formerly Chief Operating Officer of Steensen Varming Consulting Engineers. 25+ years’ experience in property and development working in engineering, legal and management roles. Building Committee member since June 2018. Joined the College Board in August 2018. Current parent.

Gabrielle McKinnon Full time parent. Volunteer for numerous school and church based activities. Previously 10 years secondary teaching in Victorian Catholic Schools including stint as Year 7 Co-ordinator. Member of the Foundation Committee, Succession Committee and Board Policy Committee. Past parent.

Mike Ryan Partner with an investment bank. 26 years’ experience in the international and domestic finance industry.  Chairman of the Finance and Audit committee, Building Committee (from August 2015) and Succession Planning Committee. Joined the Board in 2011. Chairperson from 2014. Past parent.

John Vaccaro  Licensed Real Estate Agent with 35 years' experience in residential real estate as a principal and salesperson. Currently serving as Vice Chairman of Harbord Financial Services Limited Board since 2007, also represented the NSW/ACT Community Bank® network as an elected member of the Community Bank® National Council for several years. A key member of the Business Development, Community Partnership and Marketing sub-committee. Former president of St John the Baptist School Freshwater's P&F Association. Member of the Board Policy committee. Joined the College Board in 2018. Past parent.

Andrew Wilson  Partner with a major professional services firm. Over 25 years’ experience in providing independent assurance services (including external financial audits, internal controls reviews and regulatory investigations) in Australia and internationally. Member of the Finance Committee. Current parent.

Company Secretary

Benjamin Balasigamany  Chartered Accountant with many years’ experience in financial management and administration in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Currently Head of Business and Finance at St Augustine’s College. Member of the Finance and Audit Committee and Building Committee.

Good governance requires the College Board to:

  • Ensure the College fulfils its educational goals in an Augustinian environment and acts in a manner which models the College’s core values and ethos.
  • Adapt to the distinctive characteristics of an Augustinian academic environment and act so as to exemplify and reinforce the College’s core values and ethos
  • Ensure a strategic approach to the College’s future by setting major goals, policy frameworks and strategies
  • Review plans and budgets established by College management
  • Anticipate issues, where possible, and act to diffuse them
  • Establish committees, where appropriate
  • Review and monitor adherence to systems of risk management, governance compliance and legal compliance
  • Monitor organisational performance
  • Conduct an annual review of the College’s progress in meeting its objectives

Beyond these items the Board delegates to the College Principal the authority to achieve stated objectives. 

The Principal is responsible for implementing a shared vision for the College and takes overall responsibility for the operation and management of the educational enterprise of the College. This position is supported by the College Leadership Team which consists of:

The Principal is the Head of Agency in all matters related to Child Protection.
