St Augustine’s College at the Interschools Snow Sports State Championships - Perisher 2025
In August, our Snow Sports team headed to Perisher in the Snowy Mountains to compete in the Interschools Snow Sports State Championships. It was a proud moment for the College, with our largest team to date taking part.
The Championships have been running since the 1980s and continue to offer students across Australia a chance to experience the excitement and challenge of snow sports. This year, around 1,800 students from nearly 240 schools across NSW, ACT and Queensland came together at Perisher. At the same time, Victoria hosted its own competition at Mt Buller with similar numbers.
Sixteen of our students qualified for the State Championships. Considering there were several first-time competitors, this was a fantastic achievement. With time to train before the races, the boys were able to work on their starts and turns, helping them feel confident and ready to give it their all.
Our team competed across a range of disciplines including alpine, moguls, ski cross, snowboard cross, snowboard GS and slope-style. There was good snow and sunny skies early in the week, until rain arrived on Wednesday, which made Thursday’s course a bit slower and more challenging.
Every student gave their best and represented the College with pride. Sam P and Marcus L qualified for Nationals, held at Mt Buller in early September. Luka B also qualified but was unable to attend.
We’re incredibly grateful to Mr Tom Waterhouse and Ms Sarah Elmore for their leadership and care throughout the week. Their support made a real difference. The boys felt encouraged, challenged and most importantly, they had fun.
More than 80 Australian Winter Olympians began their journey at Interschools. With the passion and determination we saw from our team this year, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some of our boys on that podium in the years to come.
