The Feast of Saint Augustine, 2025
Each year as we approach the Feast of Saint Augustine, the College takes time to reflect on our annual theme. The theme for 2025 is Humility - a virtue at the very heart of Augustine’s teaching and one that continues to shape our community today.
During our recent staff day we were honoured to reinforce how humility forms the very foundations of our St Augustine values, where the search for truth begins, continues and ultimately ends with humility. As Augustine wrote, in the search for truth, "the first part is humility; the second, humility; the third, humility..."
Without humility, Augustine believed that even the best of intentions could be corrupted by pride or the desire for recognition and personal glory. By contrast, humility acts as a safeguard by keeping us grounded, and reminding us that our talents and blessings are not of our own making but gifts entrusted to us by God.
This teaching has great relevance for our College today. In a world that often prizes prestige, achievement and admiration, humility asks us to look deeper: to see the sacred in ourselves and in others, to build authentic relationships, and to act with sincerity rather than for applause. It is a call to live not for personal glory but for something greater - our shared humanity and our faith.
Celebrating Patron’s Day
The highlight of this reflection came on September 5th, when our whole community gathered to celebrate the life and values of our Patron, Saint Augustine.
The day began with a whole College Mass at C3 Church in Oxford Falls, followed by a BBQ lunch, the always-popular ‘Bishop’s Pace Race’, and a day of fun activities for our junior students led by our 2025/26 senior leaders. This annual celebration is always one of joy, community and connection - a chance to gather as one College in gratitude for the example of Augustine, and it’s a day we all look forward to.
Father and Son Breakfast
Patron’s Week included another much-loved tradition: the Father and Son Breakfast, which was held on September 3rd. This event is always a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the bond between fathers and sons within our community and to celebrate the important role families play in College life.
Living Humility
During this special season, we continue to pray for Augustine’s wisdom to guide us. His reminder is clear: humility is not weakness, but strength. It protects us from pride, aligns us with truth, and calls us to use our gifts with gratitude.
In celebrating our Patron, may we all strive to live out humility – not only in our words and deeds but in the spirit in which we approach life, relationships, and faith.
