The College is seeking a full-time Dean of Students to join our team, commencing Term 1, 2024 however an earlier start would be considered based on the candidate's preference. This is one of two Dean positions, reporting to our Deputy Principal - Students and will initially be a 3-year appointment.

As the Dean of Students, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Deputy Principal - Students, in managing pastoral care-related situations for years 7-12
  • Embedding and maintaining appropriate levels of student behaviour throughout the College
  • Work closely with the Heads of House, Heads of Year and College psychologists to support the wellbeing of students and address concerns
  • Role model and support the development of staff within the pastoral team, and all teachers, in regards to classroom and behaviour management practices
  • Positively and proactively contributing to the College culture as a senior leader and team member
  • Ensuring teachers understand and have access to up-to-date research relating to pastoral care, and they are supported to translate that research into consistent and effective practice
  • Driving continual improvement with our staff and students
  • Supporting the Augustinian Catholic culture of the College
  • Providing an exemplary in-class experience for students
  • Working effectively with, and supporting, the Deputy Principal - Students and Leadership to implement the aims and practices of the College
  • Be willing to contribute to the College's academic, spiritual and co-curricular life.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • demonstrated capacity in pastoral leadership
  • experience leading staff (directly or indirectly)
  • demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and evaluating pastoral and behaviour management processes, policies and best practice
  • the ability to develop insights and make recommendations from the analysis of data
  • a track record of fostering positive relationships with staff and students
  • the capacity to self-reflect on performance and leadership, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • strong administrative and organisational skills
  • required qualifications to teach in NSW schools
  • a commitment to the Catholic and St Augustine's educational values
  • a commitment to child safety
  • the ability to work collaboratively with peers and leadership
  • a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development
