International Women's Day 2020
At our recent College Assembly, Alexandra Davis, a College History teacher, addressed the students regarding the many challenges that women face.
Flashback to Alexandra Davis' 2018 International Women's Day presentation -
During Assembly, Alexandra spoke to the audience as a young woman living on the northern beaches in modern times and her experience of teaching boys and the 'sometimes uncomfortableness surrounding this'. She posed the question, “Who believes in equality?” When all the students raised their hands, she affirmed them by saying, “Then you are all feminists.” She asked the boys to disregard the negative association of the word and exhorted them to think about their interactions as human being to human being. Two years ago our Senior students created a message for all boys ‘Men of Honour – Respect her, respect him and respect yourself’. We continue to encourage our students to acknowledge the significant role women such as their mothers, grandmothers, sisters, teachers, and school support staff play in their lives and to be thankful for their care.
