The College is seeking a Junior Cook/Canteen Assistant to join our team.  This newly created position will be responsible for all tasks of a Canteen Assistant as well as being able to assist with cooking duties as required.

This position offers fantastic work-life balance, with standard work hours of 7.30am-3.30pm Monday to Friday during term time only (no school holiday work).  Some evening work is required on occasions for various events.  This position will commence on contract until the end of 2021 with anticipated opportunity beyond.  

As a member of our Food Services Team, your responsibilities will include:  

  • Canteen Assistant responsibilities including serving students, cleaning and washing, restocking of vending machines etc.
  • Daily preparation for service periods (breakfast, recess and lunch)
  • Leveraging your passion for food to assist in the delivery of meals and snacks - including food preparation and cooking duties
  • Assisting in the planning, food preparation and cooking for internal catering and events
  • Working with our Food Services Manager and Chef on menu planning, budgeting etc.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Experience working in a commercial kitchen
  • A willingness to work across a wide variety of duties in back of house and front of house
  • A strong desire to grow your cooking experience and the confidence to take over the reins when required
  • A love of preparing and cooking healthy foods
  • The ability to work at a fast pace
  • Understanding of, and willingness to comply with, food safety practices
  • Effective planning and time management skills
  • Computer knowledge, specifically Excel
  • Experience in customer service related position will be highly regarded but not essential
  • The ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment
  • A high level of personal and professional presentation at all times
  • A commitment to the Catholic and St Augustine's educational values
  • A commitment to child safety
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development
