2020 Graduation Day

A beautiful Graduation Ceremony was held at the College today. Regardless of 2020 being an unusual year for learning, our Year 12 students forged ahead with pride and resilience.

Starting with a beautiful breakfast on the top floor of our new Goold Building, a Graduation procession then lead the proud boys past an audience of fellow students and staff cheering them on, into a special Graduation Assembly held in our Brimson Centre.  The event was livestreamed to our community – students and staff in classrooms, parents at home or at work and our larger community across the world.

2020 College Captain Jack Berry spoke of appreciation for the support of both our staff and the Year 12 parents during the difficult times and asked his fellow cohort to go ahead and achieve their best.

International Student Prefect Alan Meng spoke of his first time at St Augustine’s College as nervous Year 9 student and that he has made friends and learnt to speak English well, that he has a good life and connections.

Beautiful words were heard from a Year 12 parent Martha Lourey-Bird via a pre-recording and representing all Year 12 parents.  Their key messages were of ‘gratitude’ and knowing their boys had learnt ‘resilience’. With a challenging year, their sons had gained a sense of value, and in particular, the compassionate community they are a part of.

Principal Jonathan Byrne talked to the boys on how life is a puzzle and it’s a challenge for us to find meaning in the puzzle.  That 2020 has been a year for us to renew our search for truth and to realise the strength we have as a community.
