Welcome back from what I hope was a time of restoration, connection and communication. The Semester 1 Reports should have opened some productive dialogue around goal setting and prioritising. In the Primary School setting, the common language that all boys should be familiar with is WWW and EBI. Using the same language, boys should be able to identify ‘What’s Working Well’ (WWW) and be honest when discussing ‘Even Better If’(EBI). For boys to be engaged in their learning and take ownership, these discussions are important. If you need further clarification regarding your son’s report, please contact his class teacher. At our Primary School AZOOMbly on Tuesday morning, I encouraged all boys to begin the process of developing their Semester 2 goals as well as reflecting on their Semester 1 goals.
Gratitude and Appreciation
I am extremely proud, as are all the teachers, of the boys in Primary for their friendliness, outstanding manners and positive attitudes. At the regular morning assembly last Tuesday, I mentioned that during Semester 1, over 350 Positive Affirmations were handed out to boys, recognising their ability to get along, be organised and confident learners, persevere, ask for help and display the College core values of Truth, Love and Community. The challenge in Semester 2 is to maintain similar, outstanding behaviours.
Academic Assembly
Today, we recognised the achievements of boys in each class. A growth mindset reminds boys that through continued effort and perseverance, improvements should follow. For this very reason, the awards presented recognise not only outstanding results academically, they also recognise boys who consistently apply effort, grit and determination to their studies. At this assembly, we recognised consistent and positive behaviour as well as one boy in each class who displays the character strength of Humility.
Kiss and Drop
With the State Transport Minister encouraging parents to drive their children to school to alleviate congestion on buses, can I ask you to be mindful of the following-
- Move to the end of the Kiss and Drop area rather than remain in the middle
- Only turn left when entering and leaving this area
- Stagger your pick up and drop off times
- Arrange for a pickup/drop off outside the school. The side gate next to the Primary School office will be open from 8.20 - 8.40 am and 3.20 - 3.50 pm for Primary School students only. All other students must enter through the front gates along Alfred Street.
Hygiene
Can I remind parents that if your son exhibits any flu like symptoms, he must stay at home with the advice that COVID-19 testing should take place. We also remind boys of the importance of washing hands regularly and coughing/sneezing into elbows. Parents are requested to remain ‘offsite’. If you need to collect your son early or sign him in late, please do so using the Primary School Office door located on Gulliver Street.
